New 4-year Bachelors in European Studies
A professionally-oriented eight-semester Bachelor’s program in European Studies is set to begin this summer semester at the Universität Passau. The new major supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) will build on the existing six-semester European Studies program integrated with a two-semester study-abroad component.

Students in front of the Nikolakloster
The current European Studies program begun in 2002 combines the European Studies major with intensive study of at least one other European language with intensive analysis of European legal systems, culture, literature, history, geography, social affairs, and political developments in selected European countries. Fundamentals in economics and information studies will fill out the interdisciplinary program.
The program aims to support study in other European countries with the goal of developing more internationally minded professionals, with intercultural skills needed in the European-wide job market. Graduates of European Studies are in demand in the fields of institutional organization, export, marketing, public relations, tourism, economics, media, cultural institutions and associations. Import and export-oriented businesses are as likely employees as public service, national and international agencies.
An integrated study abroad
In addition to a three month internship, students will spend two semesters in another European country at one of the over 170 partner universities of the Universität Passau. In comparison to the existing six-semester program in European Studies, the study period is extended by two semesters to provide students with greater international experience, as well as further professional and practical qualifications.
The academic components include four module groups: European basis module, European focus module, European languages, and a professional module.
Applications for admission to the European Studies Program to begin this summer semester will be accepted online through March 15. Admission is competitive.
