Twenty top international scientists from the natural sciences, humanities, life science, economics and technology, will be presenting their specialist disciplines at the third "Falling Walls Conference" which is being staged in the German capital on November 9, the anniversary of the fall of the Wall.

The Falling Walls Conference is being held in the spirit of the fall of the Wall, that outstanding example of the impossible becoming possible. The conference, which was founded in 2009 marking the 20th anniversary of the Wall’s demise, will be pinpointing potential future breakthroughs in the walls of science. How can military conflicts be resolved, so that people can live in greater security? What might environmentally-friendly energy supplies look like? What models are there for the efficient healthcare services of tomorrow? What can agricultural science contribute to securing food supplies in Africa? These are some of the key questions that scientists from countries, such as Great Britain, Germany, Israel and Kenya will be addressing.

The circle of lecturers is prominent and includes the Nobel Prize-Winner in chemistry, Aaron Ciechanover from Israel. This year’s keynote address will be given by Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel. She has to stick to the same rule as all of the speakers: at the “Falling Walls Conference” none of the talks will last for more than 15 minutes. The conference also offers a total of 100 students, undergraduates, doctoral students, young scientists and young entrepreneurs the opportunity to present their own new ideas at the “Falling Walls Lab” on November 8 and discuss them with a renowned audience of experts and decision-makers in their specific fields.
