3rd Future Music Camp to focus on creative industry exchange

This year’s Future Music Camp will take place May 27-28 in the city of Mannheim with a full two days of activities. The event is held by the Pop Academy Baden-Wuerttemberg - University of Popular Music and Music Business.

The Future Music Camp has come a long way since its initial debut as a leading knowledge and exchange platform for the digital music industry and related creative industries. This year's event has already received more than 150 applications.

Entrepreneurs, media professionals and students from the fields of digital music and entertainment are expected to attend, as well as major names and decision-makers from all branches of the music industry.

As a sector, music today is open in more directions than could have ever before been imagined, interfacing in new and dynamic ways with other creative industries. The 2011 Future Music Camp program will address this collaboration under the theme “Crossing Borders”. Forums will address what’s happening in these new points of contact and likely future processes of exchange.

New collaborations and tensions

Future Music Camp will also look at the tensions between music & mobile radio, music & Internet TV, and music & mobile entertainment. Interactive discussions will be led by mobile music expert Tina Rodriguez, as well as Conrad Fritzsch from the innovative music program tape.tv, Steffen Holly of the music service aupeo!, and Tino Kreßner from the platform startnext.de.

“With a central focus on Digital Innovation Management, the Pop Academy Baden-Wuerttemberg is not only the momentum for further digitization, but also trains competent professionals for future management in the music and creative industries,” explains Hubert Wandjo, professor and managing director of Pop Academy. “Our Master’s program in Music and Creative Industries first offered in the winter semester 2011/2012, will further develop these forward-looking themes and the outcome of the Future Music Camp will be incorporated into our teaching.”

The industry trade magazine Musikwoche will serve as the official media partner of the event and the program will be put together by SMIX.LAB, a competence center for the digital music business.
